William R. "Bill" Della Torre

Portland, ME -- William (Bill) R.  Della Torre, age 58, of Portland, passed away in his home on November 6, 2016 after a brief illness from lung cancer. 

Bill was born in Portland, Maine to Richard and Joan DellaTorre on October 22, 1958.  Bill attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School.  Bill did a work-study program in high school working at Portland Lumber with his father.  He also worked at N.T. Fox   Lumber.   He learned carpentry skills and became a very talented craftsman who assisted many family members and friends with their projects as well as working for himself and various contractors. 

Bill was a generous and kind man and his family and friends will remember his adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, skiing and gardening.  Even this summer, many of his friends shared enjoying the produce from his vegetable garden.

Bill was also an avid sailor and had vast knowledge of the Casco Bay area.  He spent as much time this summer on the ocean as possible, knowing it would be his last summer on this earth.

Bill is survived by his mother, Joan DellaTorre of Westbrook ; sister, Lynne St. Peter and her partner Peter Jenkins of Portland;  brother Gary  DellaTorre and his wife Corinne of Scarborough and  sister Cynthia  Pallozzi and her husband John of Windham, as well as aunts, uncles,             cousins, several nieces and a great-nephew.   Bill has a wonderful community of friends who were a major part of his life.

Bill is also survived by children with whom he regrettably did not maintain contact with, but carried love for in his heart.

He is preceded in death by his father, Richard DellaTorre.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday, November 11th, at Trinity Church, 580 Forest Avenue, Portland at 1:00 PM with a reception to follow.    All   are welcome to attend and celebrate Bills  life.  The family would like to especially thank VNA Home Health and Hospice and Bills                 roommates for their loving care of Bill these last few months which enabled Bill to remain at home during his illness.

In honor of Bill's six years of sobriety the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to  Milestone Foundation, Inc., P O Box T, Old Orchard, ME 04064 in Bills memory.
