Roy A. Cooper

Roy A. Cooper

Roy A. Cooper passed from our presence, peacefully, on Saturday evening February 18,2017; shattering the chains of alzhiemers, that kept him bound and robbed us all.

Roy was born March 26, 1948, in Waterville, Maine, the son of Walter and Vivian (Bumps)

Cooper. In his teenage years, Roy began a life spanning career as a truck driver. He was also a highly knowledgeable mechanic, and was owner/operator of R&D Auto Service, formerly of North Augusta. Roy loved building engines, for his true passion, racing. He was owner/driver of the "Naughty Pumpkin", a Jeep funny car, with which he held state racing records, and the "Super Shaker", a 1969 Chevy Camaro SS, that earned him countless trophies.

Roy was also a contributing member of West Cove Ice Racing of Moosehead Lake for numerous seasons, and built many ice racing vehicles. He was an eternally devoted fan of NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt.

Roy had a great love for his dogs, and valued their companionship immensely.

Roy was pre-deceased by both of his parents and his only sister, Louise (Young) Arnold. He is survived by his brother Warren Cooper and his wife, Wendy of Lakeville, whom he lived with the last two plus, years. For the loving care, devotion, infinite patience, and sacrifices they made for Daddy, we are eternally grateful. Roy is also survived by his three children with former wife Carol (Ouellette) Cooper; Laurie Theriault of Augusta, Jeannie Bumps and her husband Glenn of Sidney, and Darrin Cooper of Augusta, two granddaughters Desarae Theriault and Lonnah Cooper, and two grandsons Nolan Cooper and Lance Bumps. Roy was very proud to be expecting his first great grandchild in July.

A gathering for family and friends, to celebrate Roy's life, will be held Saturday March 4,2017, at the China Baptist Church & Parsonage, 36 Causeway Rd China, Maine, from 1-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that if you wish to make a donation in Roy's name, volunteer.

an hour of your time to visit with an Alzheimer’s/dementia patient.
