Roger R. Doak

Roger R. Doak

Westbrook, ME - Roger Raymond Doak, 65, of Westbrook passed away due to a coronary event on September 30th, 2019 leaving behind his wife of 10 years, Della F Doak.

Born March 12, 1954 to Harold E Doak Sr and Elaine (Sidelinger) Doak in Camden, ME, he was the baby of his family.  He grew up in Rockland, graduated from Rockland HS and enlisted in the Navy, following family tradition.  After leaving the service, he married and had two daughters.  He mainly worked as a laborer in manufacturing, construction, and he also was a deckhand on local fishing and lobster boats in Rockland and Portland.  After being divorced for many years, he found a true match with Della, his fellow pea in the pod.  He happily gained 2 stepdaughters and 4 grandchildren in this marriage.  He retired this year from a local recycling business and spent the spring and summer traveling and enjoying the outdoors, especially the ocean when it called to him.

He was predeceased by both his parents, brothers Harold Doak Jr (Skipper), George Doak Sr and sisters Bernice Doak and Mary Stephens, a nephew and dear friend, George Doak Jr,  and niece, Wanda Feyler.

He loved fishing and camping, classic rock n roll, western movies, the Boston Celtics, and was always in motion.  He would be the first to offer you help when you needed it, and followed through, ready to jump in for moves, renovations and assorted projects.  When he did sit for a minute, he would usually have the newspaper open reading or playing Yahtzee with his wife and grandchildren. He would claim grumpily to not want a cat but spoiled Fluffy, a large Maine coon who has the zoomies at 3am most days.

He was proud of his family and leaves behind his legacy of 4 daughters, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  Daughter Rhonda Pooler & husband John Pooler Jr of Auburn; Daughter Rhoda Preston & husband Steven Preston Jr of Westbrook; Stepdaughter Crystal Carter of Windham & partner Ryan Raymond; Stepdaughter Samantha Carter of Dayton; Grandsons Jamison Pooler, Jacob Pooler, Steven Preston III, and Ayden Doherty; Granddaughters Arianna Doak, Raelynn Ridgell, Chelsea Preston, Ash Hutchins, Jasmynne Heath and Abigail Doherty; Great Granddaughters Alexa Pellicciotti, Ivy Pitts and Paisley Clark; numerous nephews and nieces notably Harold Doak, Kenny Doak, Dale Doak, Carrie Seavey and Lori Small, and many close cousins including George Doak.

We will be celebrating his life and sharing memories on October 11th, 2019 from 3pm to 6pm at Keeley’s Banquet Center, 178 Warren Ave in Portland ME.   Light refreshments will be served and all are encouraged to come in casual attire, as he was never one for dressing up.  For those who are unable to attend, please raise a drink to Roger, his preference being a cold beer.

As this was a sudden and unexpected loss, in lieu of flowers, a donation to Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 999 Forest Ave, Ste. 1 Portland, ME 04103 in Roger’s name would be appreciated by the family.
