Newton E. Towle III

Yarmouth, ME - Newton Earle Towle III, aged 73 of Yarmouth, ME died on 2/27/2017 at home after a brief illness. He was born on 1/13/1944 in Portland, ME.  His father was Newton Earle Towle II, a pilot missing in action over Japan in WWII. His mother was Florence Drinkwater and he was raised by both his mother and his stepfather Nicholas Davis.

He spent his childhood in Cumberland with his sisters Lucy, Susan, Jane, Marilyn and brother Nick until 7th grade when he moved to Yarmouth.  He attended North Yarmouth Academy, but when Yarmouth built its High School he and his wife Mary were members of the first graduating class of 1962. His best friends in high school were Mark Storms and David Curren.  He married Mary E. Croudis on August 29th, 1964 in Yarmouth.  He graduated from Southern Maine Vocational Technical School, was employed briefly as an auto mechanic, enlisted in the Army and finally became a telecommunication systems repair technician.  

After retirement he did home repairs and volunteered at his church.  He served his country as a Sargent in the Army stationed in Germany and Texas from 1966 through 1970. He enjoyed square dancing, hiking, camping, running, paraplanes, singing in Choir for Higher, Promise Keepers men's events, and repairing and designing stained glass.  He was an active member of First Baptist Church Yarmouth and went on many mission trips with the Technical Assistance Program installing donated telephone systems in mission hospitals, radio stations, and hostels in Haiti, Côte de Ivoire, Kenya, Costa Rica, Hungary and India. 

His favorite place in the world was the boys' orphanage in India, The Children's Fellowship of India, which he visited five times.  A hard worker, he really enjoyed helping others with anything needed, especially by providing AV services to the church, Morning Light Ministry and African weddings.  In later years he volunteered with his wife at Maine Greyhound Placement Services and enjoyed monthly bean suppers with the other local members of his High School graduating class.  

He is survived by his wife Mary Towle of Yarmouth, daughter Genanne and her husband Tim Brandon of Yarmouth, son Mike and his wife Alissa Towle of Cumberland, granddaughter Miranda and her husband Bill Gildart of Yarmouth, grandson Daniel and his wife Hailey Jordan of Hopedale, Massachusetts, grandson Justin Maldonado of Colorado, granddaughter Sami and her husband Kris Hutchins of Standish, granddaughter Elizabeth Towle of Cumberland, and four great-granddaughters, his sister Lucy and her husband Warren Spence of New Jersey, sister Susan and her husband Glen Cummings of Florida, sister Jane and her husband Craig Westlake of New Hampshire, sister Marilyn and her husband Howard Doucette of Portland and brother Rev. Nicholas and his wife Rev. Mary Angela Davis of Ellsworth.  He loved to laugh and cared about the details of people's lives.  

His funeral service will be on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church Yarmouth with reception to follow, officiated by Rev. Ric Ochsner.
