Lewiston, ME - Malcolm M. Hare, Jr., 84, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Androscoggin Hospice House. He was born in Lewiston, Maine on January 17, 1932, son of the late Malcolm and Blanche (Cote) Hare Sr.. Following his mother’s death, he was raised by his grandparents, Josephine and Edward Cote. He moved to North Fort Myers from Syracuse, NY, in 1988 to be with his beloved Red Sox’s for Spring Training.
He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1950 where he was known for his great athletic abilities as a basketball player. He served in the Marines in the Korean War. He owned his own business as an electronic manufacturer’s representative until his retirement in 1989. He had a compassion for people, a great sense of humor and an enthusiasm for life that never went unnoticed. He was an avid tennis player. He and his deceased wife of 59 years enjoyed swimming, entertaining family and friends and traveling the world together.
Survivors include daughters: Sue Ann Morgan of The Villages, FL and Elaine Hare of West Palm Beach, FL. Sons: Malcolm Hare III of Tampa, FL and William Hare (Catherine) of Encinitas, CA. Sister-in-law Jean and Marc Fournier of Lewiston, ME, 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and dear friend, Denise Gats at Montello Heights.
The family would like to thank the staff at Montello Heights, Lewiston, ME and the Androscoggin Home and Hospice for the compassionate care and loving support throughout Malcolm’s ending life journey.
