Janie (Rosie) Crowell

Poland Springs, ME - Janie Rosie Crowell, cherished wife of Ted Crowell passed from this world on October 13, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born on March 19, 1951 in Bangor to Robert and Venetia (Duty) Rosie. She grew up in Bucksport and Ellsworth, spending nearly every summer of her life on Craig Pond in East Orland. She graduated from Ellsworth High School and the University of Maine School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences.

Janie’s contagious laugh, big heart, positive spirit and abiding compassion touched all who knew her. She was a lover of animals both wild and domestic. Over her lifetime she adopted and nurtured many strays and wounded creatures. She loved the outdoors and considered sunsets, moonrises, loons on the lake, a turtle warming in the sun, an owl on a low hanging bough and the croak of frogs at Craig Pond to be daily gifts.

Survivors include her husband Ted, son TK Cardoza and his wife Michelle of Cumberland, daughter Mollie Cardoza-Voter and significant other Van Terrell, Jr. of Freeport. Two dearly loved granddaughters Gabrielle Voter and Marina Cardoza. Her sister Dianne Rosie O’Donnell & husband Claude of Newmarket, NH, her aunt Joan Rosie of Bangor, nephew Joshua O’Donnell of Bangor and niece Katrina Hannan of Stratham, NH. Brothers in law Robert Crowell of Oakland and Richard Crowell of Houston, TX and sister in law Constance Bowman of Florida.

Additionally Janie is survived by her Craig Pond Family, many close friends and nine cousins. She will especially be missed by her three dogs, “The Boys”: Eben, Craig and Max.

Janie requested the following words written by her be included:

“Think of Craig Pond and remember my time on earth so grand, With music and dancing and warm summer sand.

In Heaven I will sing and carry a tune

I’ll make joyful noises and hum like a loon.

Beautiful music is what I will make

You’ll hear it across the calm of the lake.”

A celebration of her life for friends and family will be held at her son’s home on October 20, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00 at 460 Greely Road Extension, Cumberland, Maine. Please bring a photo, a written memory or a story to share.
