Gloria Jean (Woodman) Ainsworth

Gloria Jean (Woodman) Ainsworth

Sanford, ME - Gloria Jean Ainsworth (Woodman) 71, of Sanford, passed away Wednesday April 10, 2019 at Greenwood Center in Sanford.

She was born on September 14, 1947 to Helen L. Woodman. In her early childhood she grew up in Wells (Highpine) where she attended school. She later moved to Sanford and attended high school there.

She began working at an early age at Kesslen Shoe Factory with her mother. She worked many years as a head housekeeper at The Colonial Village Resort in Ogunquit, while holding down a full-time job at Sprague Electric Company. When Sprague closed, she began working in the Environmental Services Department at Goodall Hospital where she retired in 2005.

Gloria was known to enjoy simple things in life. She loved crocheting blankets for her children and grandchildren, doing word search puzzles, baking banana bread or some other goodies. She loved to cook and bake and then give it all away. She would never pass up a good lobster roll or a piece of Lemon Meringue Pie, (but leave the crust). She loved listening and dancing to country music. Gloria had a contagious laugh; it was loud and could be heard around many corners.

When she laughed, you would also because it was so genuine. If she wasn’t doing any of these things, she could be found in front of the TV watching her favorite, The Andy Griffith Show.

Gloria also enjoyed traveling and has visited many countries including Mexico, Ireland, Grenada, Canada and France, in which she flew to Paris on the Concorde.  Grenada was a favorite and said it was one of the most beautiful places she had ever been.

She is predeceased by her mother Helen L. Woodman and her father Richard W. Matthews.

She is survived by her three children: Dottie Quimby, and her husband Glen, Rick Ainsworth and his wife Pam, Ryan Ainsworth and his wife Lauren all of Sanford, her grandchildren Mike Recine and his wife Erin, Kellie Buzzell, Samantha Ainsworth, Ricky Ainsworth, Evan Ainsworth and Eryn Ainsworth, her three great grandchildren Kaleb, Aubrey, Makenzie, many cousins and her furry four-legged buddy, Boots her cat.

Gloria will be missed by her loving family and all who knew her.  At Gloria’s request there will be no services.
