Edward A. "Groovy Ed" Bailey Jr.

Westbrook, ME – Edward A. “Groovy Ed” Bailey Jr., 62, of Westbrook, ME passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 2, 1954, the beloved son of Fay (St. Pierre) Bailey of Yarmouth and the late Edward A. Bailey Sr.

Ed or “Groove” as he was sometimes called, grew up in South Portland, where he attended local area schools, enjoyed playing little league, riding his bike and looking for snakes. 

As a teenager, Ed enjoyed music and learned how to play the guitar, even buying his younger brother Steve his very first guitar. During the 70's, Ed could be found practicing magic; he would entertain family and friends with his magic skills. Ed was a skilled boxer, enjoyed playing college football cards, and was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. He especially enjoyed playing cribbage and fishing, taking his granddaughter MyKayla on her very first fishing trip at the age of five. He was also on a dart team for several years. 

Ed, known by some as “Hoss” worked for many years as a machinist for the shoe shop industry.  He was most recently employed by Maine Medical Center Environmental Services. Back in his “shoe shop days” Ed often enjoyed “kicking back a few” after work with his friends.

Ed was a kind soul and will always be remembered as being a hard worker, laid back, easy going and a lover of peace.

Ed is survived by a daughter Michelle M. Bailey and her fiancé Brian Perkins, a son Shawn E. Bailey and his grandchildren Mykayla C. Bailey, Caleb M. Bailey, Colin E. Bailey, Layne D. Bailey and Addelaide A. Cloutier.  He also leaves his siblings Steve Bailey Sr. and his fiancé Jessica Hines, Colin Bailey and his wife Toni, Michael Bailey and his wife Patty and RaeJean Bailey, also his Aunt Lynn St. Pierre of Illinois as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and his “Brother from another Mother” Mike Plummer.  He was also the father of the late Christina L. Bailey and the grandfather of the late Khloe P. Bailey and Brian Perkins Jr. He was also predeceased by his best friend Andrew Levesque. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Profenno’s Bar & Grill (upstairs) 934 Main Street, Westbrook, ME.
