Dwayne Dyer

Dwayne Dyer

Portland, ME - Dwayne Dyer, 72 of Portland Maine, passed away peacefully Friday morning March 22, 2019 in hospice care. Dwayne was born June 15th 1946 in Portland Maine to William and Anna (Beach) Dyer.

He spent most of his life living in southern Maine, but also resided in Florida for a short period of time. He was the proud father of 8 children, but most proud of the 21 grandchildren and the 25 great-grandchildren that affectionately called him Bumpa. In 1965 he got married to Alice Margaret Sullivan. They had 6 children together, and have since had to put three of them to rest who were taken from them much too soon. Lisa Ann Gagnon (of South Portland), Billie-Jo Boudreau (of Rumford), Dawn Marie Dyer (of Vassalboro), Veronica Jean Dyer, Anna Lyle Dyer, and Dwayne Dyer JR. Dwayne SR went on to have his son Jason Margel (of South Portland) in 1979. Dwayne remarried in 1985 to Jolene Marie Nizza (of Portland ME). They had one daughter together Selena Marie Dyer (of Westbrook). He spent the best of his later years living with and caring for his daughter Selina and his great-granddaughter Mackenzie Tyler Martin. These girls not only were taken care of and lovingly looked after by Bumpa, but they took care of him even more so.

Dwayne had a passion for NASCAR, actually all race cars in general! He loved spending time at the race tracks with the boys and weekend camping trips on the race grounds. He treasured his very detail oriented hand painted Valvoline, turned Budweiser, turned Pennzoil, Racecar (Ford Escort!!) He drove that embarrassment all over the state of Maine, and you better believe every time he went out he'd get flagged down and complimented on his craftsmanship. Apparently people thought it was pretty cool everyone but the kids who had to get dropped off at school in the old jalopy.

A pot luck celebration of Dwayne's life will be held @ 22 Gambo Rd in Gorham on Saturday April 6th from 1:00-5:00 pm. Dwayne's ashes are to be sprinkled next to his youngest brother Leo's (Dyer)
