FALMOUTH - Charles A. Bartlett Jr., 87, of Falmouth, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at his home. He was the husband of Joan E. (Bennett) Bartlett.
He was born on Sept. 25, 1931, in Portland, a son of the late Charles A. and Ann (Houston) Bartlett Sr. He moved to Yarmouth as a child and attended North Yarmouth Academy.
Charles served in the Korean Conflict as a Navy Sonar Operator for four years before being honorably discharged. He then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science in math from Boston University and a master's in special education and adult education from the University of Maine. He taught special education in the Portland School System, P.R.E.P, and Drug and Alcohol Center, ELAN. He taught for 34 years with a passion for helping young people to find their way in life.
He loved entertaining folks with music and played piano, guitar, ukulele and banjo. He traveled the world and enjoyed learning new languages with his wife Joan by his side. Charles was an active member of the J.C.'s, he was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner at Kora Temple and Toastmaster.
Besides his wife of 61 years, Joan, he is survived by his daughter Joanne R. (Bartlett) Majka and his son Charles A. Bartlett III. He also leaves a grandson Collin A. Bartlett, three granddaughters Kaurie, Jaclyn and Lexi; as well as two great grandchildren Evan and Jace.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life at the Embassy Suites of Portland, 1050 Westbrook St., Portland, on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, from 4 – 8 p.m.
