William W. "Wes" Griffin

William W. "Wes" Griffin, 75, of Leesburg, FL passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Wes was born May 15 in Vero Beach, FL to his parents Helen and Raymond.

One of Wes’s proudest accomplishments was working for TIW Fabrication & Machining, building the largest Keck optical and infrared telescopes on a desolate mountain in Hawaii, which can only be described as cold and inhospitable. As written in a letter to him from the program manager, Wes showed patience, perseverance, and integrity while maintaining a sense of optimism in an atmosphere that many others were unable to last a fraction of his stay.

Wes served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years from 6/16/1959 to 6/16/1963. He enjoyed traveling the world, fishing, lawn work, gardening, and helping others whenever possible.

Wes is predeceased by both his parents and his daughter, Vicki Dougherty. He is survived by his children; Janey Griffin of La Grande, OR, John Griffin and his wife Lana of La Grande, OR, Joshua Hardage of Peralta, NM, Matthew Griffin of Peralta, NM, Rose Griffin of Augusta, ME, and LeeAnn Hosler and her husband Cody of Denver, CO. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Christina (35), Thomas (27), James (13), Kailee (12), Andrew (11), Gavin (9), Grant (6), and Chaya (2), three great-grandchildren, several dear friends from the Leesburg, FL community, and his beloved companion, Big Shot aka BS.

Committal Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27 at the Maine Veterans Cemetery located at 163 Mt. Vernon Rd. Augusta, ME.
