Carl H. Shapazian

Yarmouth, ME – Carl Henry Shapazian, 91, of Yarmouth passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after several long illnesses.  He was the wife of Christine (Rossetti) Shapazian.

He was born in Portland, ME on September 5, 1926 a son of the late George and Mary (Azudian) Shapazian.  He attended Portland Schools and graduated from Gray's Business College.

Carl joined the US Navy and served his country proudly until his honorable discharge.  He retired a Captain in the Portland Fire Department with 24 years of service and then became the Head of Maintenance in the South Portland School Department until his retirement.  He was also a member of the Italian Heritage Center.

He was a most beloved husband, dear Father, devoted Uncle and friend.  He was a gentle loving man who cared deeply about his family, many nieces and nephews and friends.  He will be remembered fondly for his kindness, consideration, quick wit and sense of humor.  He was also an avid gardener.

Besides his wife of 70 years, he is survived by a daughter Maryanne Giggey and her husband Timothy of Yarmouth, Carl was also the brother of the late Elizabeth Uphoff, Margaret Shapazian and Marilyn Thayer.

The family would like to thank the staff at VNA Home Health and Hospice and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their tender and compassionate care.  He passed with love, dignity and respect.

Services will be held at a later date.
