Carolyn L. (Grace) Arsenault

North Yarmouth, ME -- Carolyn L. (Grace) Arsenault, 81 of North Yarmouth passed from this earth July 16, 2017 in the comfort and peace of her beloved home on a beautiful summer morning.

She was born July 5, 1936 in Portland, Maine to Pearle and Dorothy (Mogan) Seavey. She grew up in and was educated in New Gloucester schools; graduating in 1954. She worked at the former Pineland Hospital and Training Center following high school. Through a co-worker who later became her sister in law, Carolyn met her future husband John N. Arsenault, Jr.  They married on September 17, 1960. After residing in Freeport for a brief period, they settled in North Yarmouth in 1961 to raise their family.

Carolyn was a stay at home mom; and an extraordinary one at that. She enjoyed cooking and baking, along with canning, freezing and pickling the annual garden harvest. She and John were most proud of their very own dill pickles, a jar of which made its way to the White House in the late 70s. She was an expert at packing, specifically a VW beetle for a two week family tenting excursion. She enjoyed playing bingo, yard sales, crocheting afghans and hats, jigsaw puzzles, coloring books, games shows, shopping (for bargains), collecting teapots and taking care of her various house plants and outdoor flowers. She loved music, and enjoyed classic country music, although Christmas carols were her favorite.

She was a member of the Yarmouth Senior Dining Center group, the Wednesday Toddy Brook Ladies Lunch Club and TOPS of Gray.

She was the backbone of our family; the center of our universe. She loved everyone, and was loved by all. She had a way of making you feel special that was absolutely heartwarming.  You were always welcomed into her home for a cup of tea, a couple of cookies, some chit-chat, or all of the above. She remembered your birthday, she remembered you at Christmas, she sent you a card when you lost a loved one, when you were ill, or if she was simply thinking of you. To say that her departure from this Earth has left an enormous emptiness in our souls would be an understatement. What sustains and keeps us is knowing that she will forever live in our hearts and that time will never be able to erase the many years of beautiful memories.

She was predeceased by her husband who passed away on March 23, 2015, and her two brothers, Charles Seavey and Richard Mogan.

She is survived by sons Joseph Arsenault of North Yarmouth and Kevin Arsenault and his partner Anne Edwards of Mechanic Falls; daughter Crystal Hall of Pownal; three granddaughters Allison Hall of Pownal, Lindsey Arsenault of Leesburg, FL and Michelle Nelson and her husband Dorsey of Davenport, FL; several nieces and nephews and her beloved cat, Tiger.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, New England Cancer Specialists and VNA Home Health and Hospice for all of the kind, loving and compassionate care provided for Mom. To her dear friends who selflessly gave of their time to provide rides to and from appointments we are most grateful.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 4-7 pm in the fellowship hall of the North Yarmouth Congregational Church, 3 Gray Road, North Yarmouth.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us God is thinking thoughts of peace towards us, to give us a future and a hope, so Jesus promised at John 5:28, 29 that the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. In the meantime, may God support you at this difficult time.

Aunt Carrie (Grace), We will miss you terribly. But our memories will still be with us: your rhubarb pie, sharing your pickles, just sitting around the table talking. Love you very much. So sorry for Crystal, Joe, and Kevin.

Thank you so much Grace for all the wonderful visits I had with you from the time I was just a little kid carrying my snoopy lunch box up until I started my own family. I know when Andrea and I bought our own business, my visits were less frequent, there wasn't a day went by that I didn't think about you. I considered you a second mother to me. I could talk to you about anything and I knew that whatever I had to say, I wouldn't get any kind of judgment from you. I have and always will love you and your family as my very own. I will always miss hearing your voice and knowing how good you made me feel when our visits were over. Love Digger Dan!!

So sorry your wonderful Mother & Grandmother has passed... I was very fortunate to have spent so many lovely Christmases with Carolyn at the Farm in New Gloucester, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins, in our youth. Special thanks to Crystal for her kind message to me. Bless you all.
Love, Leona
