Gail M. Thompson

Portland, ME – Gail Marie Thompson, 61, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on January 15, 2017 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by her family.

Gail was born on January 24, 1955 in Newport, VT. She grew up in Brownington Center, Vermont living with her grandmother Eliza Thompson and her mother Evelyn Thompson. Gail attended local schools where she met her lifelong friend Gail Aldrich McKenna. She graduated from Lake Region High School in Orleans, Vermont.

Gail and her mom Evelyn moved to Massachusetts in the mid-1970s where Gail worked as a Unit Coordinator at Emerson Hospital, an EKG technician, ran her own business setting up health clinics in the Fitchburg, Massachusetts area and later took a position as an Office Manager in a cardiology office in Concord, MA. For the last 25+ years, she has been a Practice Manager for Barkin and Green Pulmonary Specialists.

The last few years Gail has split her time living in Florida and Maine working primarily from home. Gail was very involved with The Grange throughout her life. She was active in several churches beginning with The Brownington Center Methodist Church – teaching Sunday School, participating in Bible study and lifting her voice to the Lord in song. Gail volunteered frequently throughout her life – most recently with children at an aftercare program at the Lake Alfred United Methodist Church in Florida and during the last few years has spent countless hours enjoying and caring for her young cousin Maleeya Towle.

Gail was bright, funny and caring. She loved reading, music (she had a beautiful singing voice herself), gardening and shopping. Family was very important to Gail. Uncles, aunts and cousins took care of her and she in turn took care of them. Betty Robinson and family were very dear friends to Gail and a big part of her life.

Gail was predeceased by her mother, Evelyn Thompson, her grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins and her Kitcat. She is survived by many cousins and friends and her beloved cat, Taz.

A graveside service will be held at a later to be determined date in Brownington Center, Vermont.

Memorial donations in her name can be made to: Jones Memorial Library, 1 Water Street, Orleans, VT 05860, 1-802-754-6660 or House of Hope, Inc., 812 Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA 01854, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Dear Betty and all of Gail's family. You all have my deepest sympathy, for the very sudden passing of Gail. She was my Florida next door neighbor, and above that a wonderful friend, that We loved and cared about very much. We will never have another neighbor like Gail......she was kind, loving, caring, and the first to offer help is someone needed it. She was a wonderful caretaker, and had a beautiful smile, and was so much fun, Gail, Your memory will be alive in Our hearts forever. It was an honor to call You Friend. Fly high with the angels. Love Always

My deepest sympathies to Gail's family and friends. We worked for physicians in Concord at the same time and developed a great friendship. Her warmth and humor will be greatly missed.
