Catherine E. (Barteld) Martin

Scarborough, ME - Catherine E.  (Barteld) Martin, 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Scarborough Terrace. She was the wife of the late Leo Martin.

Cathy was born on July 22, 1946 in Norwood, NJ; she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mabel (Brown) Barteld.

For over 16 years Cathy enjoyed her career as an LMNA. It allowed her to care for residents of Wheelock Terrace and she did so as if they were her own family.

Cathy was a loving mother and grandmother.  A strong, independent woman with a kind heart and the gift to initiate conversations and engage others.

Above all else she loved her family and friends. Maine had a special place in Cathy’s heart and she spent much time visiting family and enjoying the beaches.

She is survived by her son Michael Marinaro and his wife Charlene of Portland, ME and her granddaughter Francesca Marinaro.  She also leaves her brother Walter Barteld, nephews Paul and John, nieces Patricia and Melissa, great nephew Joseph Jr, dearest family Michael B. Marinaro, Patti, Mentor, as well as many wonderful friends, and three cats Rosie, Jack and Rocco.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the many wonderful caregivers at Scarborough Terrace that provided Cathy with kind and compassionate care during her last months.

A celebration of Cathy’s Life is planned for July 2019 when Maine beaches are the most enjoyable.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Cathy took wonderful of my Mom for the last year of her life, at Wheelock Terrace. I always enjoyed talking with her. I'm sure she is greatly missed.

I worked with Cathy for a number of years and truly enjoyed every minute I spent in her company. She was very funny and marched to her own beat. The memories that stick out the most are how much she loved the beach and Leo- and how often she talked proudly of her son. I'm sorry to hear she's gone so soon- she will be missed.
