Alberta E. (Roberts) Cunningham

Westbrook, ME - Alberta E. (Roberts) Cunningham, 91, of South Portland passed away at Springbrook Center on October 13, 2018. Mom passed on her 91st birthday.

Our Mom was born at home in South Portland on October 13, 1927. She was the oldest daughter of Hollis and Elizabeth (Aucoin) Roberts. She grew up in Portland and attended local schools.

On April 28, 1946, Mom married Kenneth M. Cunningham.  They were married for 39 years.  Mom worked at Standard Romper and then Fairchild Semiconductor until her retirement.

Our Mom got her drivers license at the age of 60 and we were all so proud of her for doing this.  A typical Mainer, who loved going apple and blueberry picking with us kids.  We all knew that getting Mom a lobster was better than getting her flowers.

Mom had a small 91st birthday party with her family and enjoyed flowers and her lobster. Mom passed later that afternoon with family at her side.

Alberta is survived by her children, Sandra of Windham, Lois Norberg of South Portland, Linda and Scott Dube of Bridgton, Kenneth and Vicki Cunningham of Windham, Richard Cunningham of Raymond and Bruce and Gina Cunningham of Scarborough. 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Her two sisters, Annella Catruch of Casco and Lillian and Henry Hanscom of Ocala, Florida were Moms life time best friends. Two special friends, Peggy Galietta and Ann Hodgkins.

Our family would like to thank all of the Staff at Springbrook for the care given and the kindness shown as Mom struggled with Alzheimer’s Thank you for a safe and loving environment. A very heart felt thank you to Jasmine and Kim of Compassus Hospice Care, for the loving care you gave our Mom.

At the request of Mom there will be a private funeral for family members only. Burial will be at HighlandCemetery in South Portland.

A tribute to the most incredible person that anyone had the opportunity of meeting. My mom meant the world to me. I always tried my best to meet up to her expectations. She will always be with me. Love always Lois
