John Cacoulidis

Hope Island, ME - John Cacoulidis, 85, died July 23, 2018 on Hope Island, Cumberland County, Maine, the private island residence he developed with his beloved wife, Phyllis Cacoulidis, who, herself, passed away on Hope Island May 6, 2016.  They will be laid to rest together.  

Born in Thessaloniki, Greece he served in military campaigns with the Allied forces during World War II and later emigrated to the United States where he became a proud American Citizen.  Mr. Cacoulidis established himself as a master builder in the construction industry and was a widely respected entrepreneur.  He founded Grand Metro Builders of New York where he designed, developed, managed and owned his own class A office and industrial properties.  He had real estate holdings in New York and Maine.  Mr. Cacoulidis also served on the Board of Zoning Appeals of the Village of Old Westbury, N.Y. 

Mr. Cacoulidis was well known for his acumen in the construction industry understanding complex methodologies, directing and working well with all trades employed on his projects.  He was also a well-respected businessman known for his innovative deal making and entrepreneurial vision.  In addition to his own properties, he was involved in various public works projects at Kennedy Airport and the 1970’s renovation of Yankee Stadium.  Mr. Cacoulidis and his wife purchased Hope Island in 1993 and transformed it into a private island paradise with love and devotion where he and his wife cared for a wide array of animals many of which were rescued.  He is survived by his son, his three daughters and his granddaughter.
